Though most of the hype regarding the newly liberalized French online gambling market is in regards to offshore Internet casino groups finally having a chance to take advantage of the market. But local companies az well are teaming up to strengthen their offerings as this weeks announcement from Lucien Barriere and Francaise des Jeux demonstrated this week. Both groups already hold strong followings in France, and will feed upon that base to establish a new online poker offering. Francaise DES Jeux was the former monopoly servicing the nation, and with the majority of online gamblers, it will still be regarded as the brand name to trust. The name Lucien Barriere is a giant among land based casino groups, and have recently launched efforts into the Internet casino sector with the introduction of the LeCroupier online casino to the rest of Europe. The pair announces this week that they've signed a deal to launch a new site under the name Barriere Poker.fr. It will be an equal venture, with both firms contributing eight million euro to the project, buying with the sum a 43.84 percent stake in the new site. The remaining 12.32 percent will be assigned to Online Gaming 3D, a contributor to the software that will be used in the new site, and a subsidiary of the video game developer, MK2. According to a report by the Reuters news agency, the site is expected to be up and running by September of this year, and will be designed to specifically target French players. A request for an operations license has already been requested of ARJEL and is expected to be granted by the end of the summer. |
