Though the last few weeks have been relatively quiet in regards to updates on the litigation efforts between two of the most prolific names in the online gambling industry, this week, the ante was definitely upped by both Harrah’s Entertainment and Everest Poker with the development that the latter online poker brand has launched additional litigation against the former, claiming a breach in trademark infringement. According to a report by the Las Vegas Sun, where Harrah’s is based, the most recent case is in regards to the use of Everest Poker logos and trademarks during tournaments hosted by Harrah’s, most specifically, the current World Series of Poker. Though the current series is still ongoing, apparently Everest Poker has some sort of carryover objections to just how Harrah’s has followed through on their use of the brand logo, including its display on poker table felts, banners, posters and even television monitors. The arguments, though filed in relation to the current Series, are more likely stemming from last year’s. The litigation battle between the online gambling companies has gone on for months, with suits and counter-suited adequately muddying the waters from a clear sight on the issue. Originally, there was a problem in relation to Harrah’s not following through on their sponsorship and promotion contract with Everest in Europe, with the company claiming that their agreement stipulated for advertisement on felts and the like only in the American market. Overseas, they claim, they had every right to substitute the Everest logo for other sponsors’ logos. For now, the parent companies, Harrah’s and Ultra Internet Media SA continue to claim breach of contracts against one another, with no resolution yet in sight. |
