continued from WSOP Update - 8 Typically speaking, however, the top ten percent of players tend to be awarded cash prizes, with the least amount given estimated to be about twice the buy-in, and so $20,000. The longer a winning player lasts, the larger his cash prize will be. But most importantly will be the competition, which no doubt will be flush with the most powerful of poker players. To divide up the names from the big field of entries, the entrants will be split into four starting groups. Survivors of each group from their corresponding Day 1’s will merge to one competition on Days 2 and 3. Two years ago, the organizers of the World Series of Poker decided that it would be lucrative to split up the final action associated with the Main Event, resulting in a structural change for the final table. Instead of playing it out, once the final nine have been decided, they will be put on ice until November for the last installment of the game. It’s a new change that irks some members of the internet gambling community, but allows Harrah’s Entertainment to spread out the attention generated by the WSOP’s Main Event. But just because the Main Event is fast creeping up on poker fans doesn’t mean that other World Series of Poker events have stopped or suspended, with the other games continually weeding out the winners from the weak. In fact, this year’s events have showed many players utterly determined to win, making for great excitement wholly enjoyed by the onlooking internet gambling community, but also delaying resolution. This week’s update from Las Vegas actually includes three events which had expected to be done and over with by the fourth of July, Independence Day in the US, which surprised organizers with especially determined sets of players. The three in question have actually been called preliminary rounds for the Main Event, given their proximity and may give indication that this year’s last game will be rife with competition. to be continued in WSOP Update - 10 |
