Luck can be a fickle thing, but this story is a clear example of when Lady Luck chooses a recipient, and sticks to her plan. Stan Knapp, a resident of Edmonton, Canada was the beneficiary in this particular tale, walking away from what could have been an egregious error with Cnd $16 million. The regular lottery player was in the habit of playing his preferred game of Lotto Max, though a store clerk’s mistake has made this particular man a millionaire.

Knapp’s request for a Lotto Max ticket at his local drugstore was misheard, or mis-printed by the store clerk, who instead completed an order for a 6/49 ticket. Knapp didn’t argue, and chose instead to just go with the flow – decision that turned out to be his most lucrative ever. The mistake ticket turned out to be a winner, worth an impressive Cnd $16 million, so much money that it broke the lotto machine when he returned to have his numbers checked.

The machine read the ticket, and promptly shut down. Once the store manager had rebooted the equipment she read some very good fortune – Knapp’s ticket was a huge winner. Initially, Knapp was informed by store manager Lorna Lenk that he had won $1.6 million, a misread of the fortune. Reports claim that both times, Knapp had hardly a reaction to his good fortune, taking it in easy stride, the same way he had done with the misprinted ticket.

It’s a tale that compares much differently to the tale of a similar customer who refused to accept a misprinted ticket that turned out to be worth Cnd $30 million, until, of course, they realized it had been a winner. The member of the Newfoundland and Labrador community was denied their claim to the winnings.
