The summer illegal gambling busts continue this week with the news of yet another ring of online gambling sports betting raids in Virginia. This time, the police crashed in on a private residence, alarming neighbors who has no idea that quiet Khen Han Tran had been operating an illegal internet gambling scam out of his home in Henrico County, Virginia. The investigation by authorities culminated in the execution of a dramatic raid, backed by search warrants. A report by local news source CBS 6 said that the search warrant specifically identified the home of Tran as the hub for the illegal gambling operation, said to be linked to an unspecified sports betting site. The details of the case allege that Tran received illegal bets on both college and professional sporting events, making significant money acting as a bookie for basketball, football and similar sports. The charges against Tran include running an illegal online gambling operation as well as money laundering. Apparently, the case is being considered rather air tight, sealed and backed by a six month undercover investigation by detectives assigned to the Fairfax County police, which resulted in more than a hundred undercover bets being successfully placed via Tran on his online gambling site. No comment has been made by either Tran or his legal team. Authorities confirmed that they had made lucrative seizures as well during the raid, including multiple computers and laptops, CD’s and a sum of money, though the quantity was not released to the press. The Fairfax County officials credited their partnership with Virginia State Police for the success of the operation. Tran also had been tracked making clandestine meetings with his gamblers, one of whom acted as a confidential informant to police. |
