According to a report by the Union Leader, the state’s Commission has had to renege on the launch date, scheduling instead a series of meetings to better inform the state’s leaders on the program. Prior to said announcement, July 1st will no longer by the introduction date for the new internet-based scratch gaming cards. Instead, the launch of PlayNowNH.com will have to be delayed, though the new release date has not yet been determined. It had gone live, until very strong opposition rose up against the measure, mostly from those lawmakers who claimed there to be no difference between traditional online gambling and internet scratch cards, a distinction that the proponents hope to clarify in the coming weeks. The wording itself might be at fault, as two of the titles for the new games refer to more classic online casino games, including a $3 Super Slots game, as well as a $5 NH Poker game. Both are chance-only virtual scratch cards, however, and do not constitute internet casino games. As scratch cards are legal in New Hampshire, their virtual counterparts are protected under the law, with lottery officials claiming it’s simply a new way for them to offer existing products. Responsibility seems to be a key word being thrown about, as the legislators also look at the tax funds that the internet scratch cards could bring in. “The lottery is going to use the down time to educate state leaders about the new interactive game and its place in our portfolio of products,” said Charles McIntyre, the executive director for the state’s lottery operations. “PlayNowNH was under development long before I took this job, but it is my responsibility to make certain that any and all lottery products are launched responsibly and transparently to public officials and the public at large."
