Two sister companies under the ownership and operatorship of Mangas Gaming and GigaMedia have made online gambling news headlines this week with the confirmation that the pair have launched new sites facing the newly liberalized French internet gambling industry. The announcement came from Everest Poker and BetClic Poker, with both firms confirming that their bids for licensing had been approved by the French regulator ARJEL. They are only a couple of the slews of internet gambling companies which have rushed in recent months to among those approved to launch services in France. Though the market is now open to offshore companies, the mandate demands quite a bit from applicants, ensuring that they have a French partner and all but ensuring that only the best and most ready of companies can earn their licensing rights. Among the companies still trying to get on the good side of ARJEL is that of a competing online gambling company, Playtech, as they have recently begun rejecting French players in the hope of falling more in line with regulations. No official notice of their application has yet been received, but representatives from Playtech have been more than clear in saying that joining new industry was a definitive goal for 2010. "We are especially excited about the opening of the large French market to online poker," GigaMedia CEO Arthur Wang said Friday. "Everest and BetClic are strongest in France and we see an enormous market opportunity for which we are best positioned with our award winning poker products." |
