Though the progress for the legalization efforts of online gambling in the US have been disappointingly slow in recent weeks, at least one organization isn’t giving up quite yet, as the Poker Players Alliance announced this month their intention to host a ‘money bomb’ before the end of the month. The effort is being made to not only raise money, but awareness in general of the needs of the growing internet casino community, which continues to flourish in the US despite the persistence of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.

A money bomb is defined as an effort to have all the supporters of a cause make donations on a single day. Regardless of the amount, the initiative of doing it on one day is often news-worthy in itself, serving its cause with publicity, as well as enticing fence supporters to join the cause. With major legislative bills being held in the balance, like McDermott’s and Frank’s, the need to bring to the forefront the legalization movement for internet casinos is painfully transparent.

The Poker Players Alliance is one of the most influential gambling groups in the US, as they work to not only gain freedoms for online gambling, but for the game of poker in all its forms – over the computer, in casinos, and even private and charity games on a very small scale. Thankfully, their leader in chairman Alfonse D’Amato remains vigilant in all his efforts, open and transparent to the press, and active in the fights for liberalization. The PPA is more than one million members strong; the PPA hopes to raise at least $25,000 from their money bomb event.

"We would not be where we are today without the support and dedication of the poker community. Yet, there is much more to be done to assure that every American has the right to enjoy a game of poker from their computer, in a casino or at their kitchen table," said D'Amato. "This unique fundraising effort is another way for our members and all players to demonstrate to lawmakers the broad support for online poker, while at the same time helping PPA continues its advocacy efforts."
