A big change is taking place for one soccer league in the Italy market this week as their sponsorship deal with online gambling company Bwin Interactive has also meant a change in league title. Both Bwin and the football league confirmed the change, as the Lega Nazionale Professionisti Serie B leaugue will now be known as Serie Bwin, with the signing and completion of a 2 year sponsorship deal with the internet casino group. Bwin, based out of and listed through Vienna, Austria, has signed an agreement that will link their brand to the 22-club league, all of which will be at least partially linked to the online gambling brand by sheer association. The deal has a base motivation clear as day, with the contract bringing some much needed revenue to the Italian soccer league, a group that has been competing with limited fiscal resources for some time. The timing, as well, couldn’t be more perfect, as the Serie A division of the league branched away this year in order to establish their own professional league. The agreement was signed by top representatives from both organizations, with chairman Luca Ferrari representing the Lega Nazionale Professionisti Serie B, and Paolo Di Feo, CEO for Bwin Italy. The deal is set to expire the end of June in the year 2012. It’s the latest in agreements made by Bwin for sponsorship deals in the football arenas throughout Europe. One of the latest coups has been the contract signed between the online gambling firm and Real Madrid. |
