The overwhelming success of the newest Canadian online gambling website is by far and large apparent this week as the very first day of business was so tremendous that it maxed out the server capabilities and took down the site! Though the proponents for the newest addition to the North American internet gambling industry were sure of its imminent success, the overwhelming business that it got on just its first day was no doubt surprising to everyone.

The Canadian province of British Columbia launched their new state-operated online casino site, PlayNow.com this week to overwhelming success. The demand was clearly there, even before the launch of the new site, hosted by parent company British Columbia’s Lottery Corporation. It went live jus this past Friday, and within hours, the site crashed due to overuse by the region’s constituents.

The site PlayNow.com is being considered by many in the online gambling community as the prototype for state-run internet casinos, powered by OpenBet. The journey to launch has not been without opposition, of course, with criticisms being raised in regards to problem gambling, and politics, but the need for new government funds in the end won out. Some estimates expect as much as Cnd $100 million to be generated by the new site in levies, most of which will be redirected back into the community by funding social programs, education, and health care.

"It's been an overwhelming success with people in British Columbia to the point where we hit 100 percent capacity in the first day,” said the president for the BC Lottery Corporation, Michael Graydon. "So we decided to close the site down for a half a day, and add some new hardware and servers to the system to be able to accommodate the demand. We're in the process of doing that. Our IT people are working very hard to get it up and running again."
