A few weeks ago, the internet gambling community caught wind of a significant agreement between two online casino firms joining together to venture into the newly liberalized French market. Additional details have become available on the deal as the new team selected this week their management team, those leaders who will ultimately be responsible for the new project’s success. Canal + and Ladbrokes released a joint press statement this week, confirming their selections for executives, including a number of names that will already be well known by many in the online gambling community. François Deplanck has been chosen as chief executive officer, an industry switch for him as he is currently in television in the French market; Mick DAncona will be moving from his position as the head of the IT and remote gambling departments to act as chief operating officer. The team will be an equal mix of representatives from both companies, as well as bringing in specialty roles from outside the project. Internet marketing director for Canal +, Laurent de Camas will be acting as marketing chief, and the firm’s own Anne Balland will stand as chief financial officer. All come with the qualifications necessary to ensure the new project’s success: Deplanck has been working as the head of Canal’s youth unit, leading the department for youth programming for the last three years. Though branching into the world of online gambling will be a new market for him, his experience in high-powered, fast paced, worlds of technology will serve him well in his new role. De Camas has been a loyal employee for Canal since he joined the team in 1986, carrying a special perspective on the pay broadcasting company’s history. Balland will come to online gambling from her role as the management head for sports, though she has also worked as head of cash management for the subsidiary EuroSport TV. |
