The latest news from the powerful poker and online gambling company Poker Stars shows just how crucial a part the internet casino information boards can play in improving security and experiences. The warnings about bots operating on the site came originally not from Poker Stars IT team, but rather was a string of cautionary tales on the internet gambling forum 2-Plus-2. The rumors launched a formal investigation by Poker Stars, which resulted this week in the official freezing of 10 player accounts, accused of having run bots. Technically speaking, bots are automatic programs set to run on a player profile, continuously playing on behalf of the online gambler so that they themselves do not need to be present, or make any decisions. They are subversive programs that give their operators an unfair advantage over real players, and are prohibited by all internet casinos. Poker Stars was able to track down and identify ten accounts that were running bots, findings that were then confirmed by a third party from Poker Table Ratings.com. The bots had already been in operation for some time, with the statistics from Poker Table Ratings showing that collectively, the bots had managed to play at least eight million hands of poker at the site since their installation. The action had resulted in $57,000 in profits as well as generating for the site at least $187,000 in rake. Always on top of their customer communiqué, a statement has been posted on the original message forum by Poker Stars, stating: “Our tools for bot detection are sophisticated, but they are not perfect. No site can guarantee you that they are completely free of bots. PokerStars takes its commitment to bot detection and removal extremely seriously, and will continue to do so, both behind the scenes with our tools (which are under constant review and improvement), and in response to player-generated suspicions. Most player reports of bot suspicions are false alarms, but we still investigate each one thoroughly, and when they actually do locate a previously undetected bot, appropriate action will always be taken.” |
