With most of the Canadian online gambling news relating to the developments of internet casino options to be offered up by Loto Quebec in the coming months, it certainly shouldn’t be forgotten that some districts in the northern nation already offer online gambling products to their customers. British Columbia, for example, has been one of the pioneers of the movement in Canada, with the government announcing just this week that their menu will be expanded to better accommodate demands by BC residents. This month’s expansion will be one of the most significant to date, as a representative for the province is said to announce the launch of 75 new online casino games. According to an article in the Vancouver Sun, Rich Coleman, the Minister of Housing and Social Development, is expected to make the press statement by the end of the week, officially introducing the much anticipated 75 new games to the British Columbia’s Lottery Corp’s online gambling website, PlayNow.com. The new menu selections will include a range, varying from bingo to sports betting, online casino to lottery games. Favorites such as classic blackjack, poker, and even roulette are expected to be included in the internet casino category. In order to accommodate such a huge update, the PlayNow website was actually taken down for maintenance, scheduled to reopen immediately following the Minister’s announcement. The last time the online gambling site was updated was to comply with BC Lottery Corp’s increase of weekly betting limits for players last year, jumping from just $120 a week to $9,999 a week. British Columbia has been one of the first provinces to make such dramatic strides in state-sanctioned online gambling, and their success has inspired other regions to make similar moves. Future improvements include plans to host mobile gaming options for portable devices. This week’s update will include visible links to a number of socially responsible resources, providing assistance for those who may have concerns about problem gambling, underage gambling prevention, and additional information on responsible gambling policies. |
