Additional information is becoming slowly available in regards to the continuing attacks on illegal gambling operations in New York this week, as the police and officials behind the raids provide a bit more information for how they’re gathering intel. According to a statement from police, the breach of prohibition against online gambling is only a part of the issue, as the team running the internet casinos are said to be linked with organized crime groups. The primary target is the shutting down of online sports betting rings, according to a recent piece by the New York Daily News, which also said that the operation has been gathering information against the betting schemes for the last two years. Wire tapping is now a key piece to tracking information, as the police pull out all the stops to catch the key players in the online gambling operations. While the police are utilizing their highest techie devices to try to outsmart the crooks, the operators have moved and made millions of dollars, placing bets through offshore internet gambling websites on behalf of their clients. Dozens of search warrants have been issued to give officials the power they need to raid the rings, all of which seem to center around Staten Island and Brooklyn. Two well known mobster names have already come up in the investigations, those of Joseph Lanni and Pietro Inzerillo, charged with the operation of TouchDownBets.com. Other online casinos under scrutiny include Bet1010.com and NY Sports Wager.com, which is owned by Alfredo (Dark Al) Correa and Gerard Bruzzese, according to court documents. All accusations have been refuted by Correa’s legal team. |
