One of the most popular online gambling companies in the industry, Party Gaming, has made a significant announcement this week, having just completed negotiations on, and signed a contract with the Danish state’s internet gambling monopoly, Danske Spil. The agreement has been made for the next five years, with an option to extend, putting the Gibraltar-based internet casino in a strong position to bridge into the market with their online gambling platforms for both traditional casino games as well as specialty poker. Though their monopolistic control is continually a thorn in the European online casino community’s side, the Danske Spil group is nonetheless very successful: they saw a turnover of DKK 10,955 million in 2008, marking them as one of the largest betting organizations on the continent. They already offer a number of gambling products to their local constituents, such as instant games, numbers games, and provide the national lottery, as well as manage all the gaming machines throughout Denmark. With more than 500,000 registered customers fo their existing online casino, the group hopes to multiply the registry through Party Gaming’s cooperation. The new partnership is part of preparation and planning for the impending changes, as a more liberalized market is expected to become law by 2011. Should the bill pass, poker and casino games will be among those products open to offshore competition. Danske Spil is trying to strengthen their position before such a proposal passes, and has teamed up with Party Gaming in order to complete their goal, having already maximized their sports betting and bingo fronts though other means. "With some of the world’s leading products in online poker and casino as well as a large international customer base, PartyGaming is definitely a strong business partner for Danske Spil,” the CEO of the monopoly was quoted as saying. HC Madsen continued: “Combining this with Danske Spil’s unique and strong position in the Danish market with more than 500,000 Danish online customers will guarantee that together we will deliver a highly attractive customer experience to players in Denmark." |
