Winners have told many a story of having a feeling that ‘today was their day’ just before becoming millionaires and this particular tale similarly hails just that phenomenon. Immediately before Christmas, no less, a single mother in Australia had just such a feeling and ended the day with A$12 million more than she had begun it with. Internet casino users report just such ‘feelings’ all the time, but apparently, it stretches to include traditional Powerball lottery games as well. The draw for the Powerball Lottery took place on Christmas Eve and one winner was identified, though she did not yet know it. It took six days for the winner, who as of now wishes to remain anonymous, to check and find out that she was now a millionaire, prompted to double check the ticket by her own mother. "My mum told me to check my ticket because she'd heard on the news that someone from the area had won the $12 million," she was reported as saying afterward. "I didn't really think it was me but then I thought, why not me?" Powerball administrators had already put out reminders to the local public to check their tickets, waiting for the winning numbers to come forward. The win was enough to change anyone’s life, summed up to an incredible A$12 million. The thiry-something claimant has since said that she intends to use the bulk of the money to secure the futures of her own kids. She never plays the lottery, she said, but "I was walking past the Tatts shop just before Christmas and something told me to go in and buy a ticket.” |
