A bit more information has become available to the internet gambling news community this week in regards to the continuing arguments in New Jersey over the potential legalization of online casinos within state borders. As the proposal set forth by the state’s legislation continues to gather attention, the media is asking some tough questions about the online gambling industry and its future in the US, especially for states like New Jersey and Nevada, where gambling is a well-enjoyed pastime.

The legislative piece catching the headlines is the bill put forward by New Jersey Senator Raymond Lesniak, which would allow state residents to gambling through internet casino versions of their favorite games, found and based out of the land-based casinos in Atlantic City. For s state desperate for tax funds, the measure is catching more serious consideration that some might have anticipated.

The bill now being considered by state lawmakers is not Lesniak’s first attempt at seeing a measure of legalization for online gambling in New Jersey; rather it’s his second go at opening up the market. His previous effort would have allowed voters to choose to see state-regulated sports betting introduced into their Atlantic City casino menus, as well as allowed an internet-based system for gamblers to wager without being present in Atlantic City.

Lesniak’s proposal would be a direct exploitative hit for the carve-outs designed into the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, making room for horse-races and taking the holes to a whole new level. Should his latest tries make better headway, the new internet gambling system would be regulated in-state, responsible for reporting appropriately to the New Jersey Casino Control Commission.

"We're happy that New Jersey has taken this issue into their own hands,” said the chairman for one of the biggest proponents, iMEGA’s Joe Brennan Jr. “New Jersey is recognized as having the toughest gaming regulators in the US, but as a leading gaming state with a long track record of doing things the right way, Internet gambling will have a great home here and the opportunity to begin normalizing the industry."
