A fantastic new study has just been released from the US, reporting that online gambling is good for the human brain! According to the study, completed by the US psychological research team led by Rolf Nelson at Wheaton College in Illinois, the practice of gaming in internet casinos shows promise for having a positive effect on the human brain. The study was inspired by some research completed last year in Canada. The Canadians found that online gambling was beneficial in keeping senior citizens mentally sharp, stating that those that frequented online websites were able to feign off dementia and improve memory better than those that didn’t go online. The recent findings in the US are similar but apply to students rather than seniors. The results were published in the December issue of the British scientific journal Perception, and published the story in which 20 students were cerebrally analyzed. The students were presented with spatial relations problems both before and after playing action and/or strategy games on the computer. The action games and strategy games both had different reactions, but both reflected a positive light on online gambling. After playing strategy games (like poker) the spatial problems were completed much more accurately than before the game. The action games added an element of speed to the problems’ completion. Nelson was able to surmise that playing action games can improve cognitive speed, while strategy and puzzle games have the potential of increasing accuracy in problem solving over the long term. The study will no doubt be of much interest to the online gambling community, and their never-ending battle against the negative reputation that internet casinos carry. |
