Full Tilt’s online casino has become one of the leaders in the industry for providing competitive, high-quality internet poker. Players trust the site, some implicitly. So the fact that the software at the internet gambling website went a little askew, causing what many are titling the worst technical nightmare since the site’s launch, was more than surprising, alarming members to the system’s imperfections. While the busy online casino was running at full tilt, Full Tilt’s server crashed, sending the back offices and support teams into frentic chaos. The site, which is the world’s second largest provider for online poker, disappointed thousands of players in one of the most busy time frames of the day, and on the weekend (Sunday), impacting everyone on the network for a period of several hours. It was not only the disappointment of having games, bets, and runs interrupted, as the technical support teams worked to determine the cause of the issue. Operators had originally hoped that the stop would be temporary, asking players to wait until in-progress tournaments could be reestablished. It soon became clear that hours would be needed, and all the games were cancelled. All buy-ins for in-progress games were refunded, as well as the tournament fees associated with playing. The funds in the prize pools were distributed evenly among players according to chip count at the time of the system failure. Some of Full Tilt’s tournaments award non-cash prizes, such as live competition seats. Each ‘prize’ is assigned a monetary value at the time of major system fails, like last week’s, and the values are added to the prize pots. In any case, operations are all back up and running normally at the internet casino, with operators and players alike hoping the issue was a one time fluke. |
