The announcement of yet another partnership struck this week is a clear indicator of the increase in speed of development and preparation for the pending liberalization of the French online gambling industry. News of internet casinos positioning themselves continues to flood the news sector for the internet gambling community with the latest contract being signed between the state gambling monopoly Francaise Des Jeux and the land casino company Lucien Barriere. The pair has been reported to have teamed up specifically to develop an unprecedented online poker contribution to the new market.

According to a recent report by the local newspaper, Le Figaro, the new agreement has potential bumps in the road ahead, however, as their existing software agreements have some elements on incompatibility. Barriere currently runs the online casino LeCroupier.com, which highlights 3D technology, while FdJ has a poker agreement already in effect with the US provider CyberArts. Considering the preference for French companies to dominate the new liberalized online gambling market, however, a solution is sure to be found in favor or Barriere, over the US group.

But the line doesn’t stop there, as the consequences to the decision could reach as far as the Greek lottery group Intralot, which holds 35 percent of the Cyberarts company, and makes them a major interest party should the deal with the French be threatened. One advantage that Cyberarts has over their French competition is that of scale-ability, as they have already shown their poker software to be superior to most, while Barriere’s programs have yet to be tested in the live market.
