Online gambling news this week reported on the head of an anti-gambling task force set up by Governor Bob Riley in Alabama being caught gambling in the neighboring state of Mississippi, with a statement being released by the good governor shortly after the story hit the presses. David Barber was confirmed to have been gambling at the Choctaw Indian Casino, and was caught doing so when he had to report the earning won by a $2,300 jackpot win. Despite the stream of questions erupting from the online gambling community, in regards to the contradictory nature of those agents on the task force, not a lot of details as to Barber’s gambling habits have been released, such as whether he only frequented live venues, or also visited internet casinos as well. According to a piece by the Tuscaloosa News, which relayed the Governor’s statement, Barber has since resigned his post as the head of the task force, admitting that his $2,300 winnings was contradictory to the nature of his employment. Governor Riley has accepted the resignation. No details have been released as to when Barber won the funds, though Riley did mention that he knew of the family going to the Mississippi casino to celebrate a special event in recent months. He made clear that Barber’s departure from the task force will not hinder their investigations of illegal gambling operations in Alabama, focusing on both live gambling circles and links to online gambling schemes. He also refused to comment on the allegations that his gubernatorial platform financially benefited from gambling boosters out of Mississippi, with some contending that the candidacy profited by as much as $13 million from gaming interests. |
