The Isle of Man’s news sector has made some inquiries into the opinions of those registered throughout the island on the Dikshit ‘settlement,’ Party Gaming’s founder admission of guilt to the US Dept of Justice and payment of $300 million for his sins. Considering the potential effects that the event may have on future online gambling rulings, the opinion of those stationed throughout the small nation, primarily consisting of internet casino companies may very well have some weight on the overall consequences of the decision. In that effort, the regional newspaper asked Poker Stars.com, one of the largest world renowned online poker sites what they thought of the situation to very little response. Even with the US authorities taking a particularly aggressive stance on persecuting violators of the Wire Act, unrelated to current days’ UIGEA restrictions, a spokesperson for Poker Stars had only a neutral stance to offer. “As far as we’re concerned, it’s business as usual. It doesn’t affect the company. This doesn’t change the law; no precedents have been set,” said Paul Telford, the lead of the legal department for the online casino. “But it will give us food for thought as to the bigger impact. The situation is very fluid so there is little point in commenting further.” The Isle of Man Today flushed the article out by clarifying that there will be no direct impact of the Party Gaming case in the area; very little effect will be felt by the e-gaming companies who base their business out of the island, as most target European and Asian markets. |
