Omaha Hold’em is the lesser known brother of the Hold’em clan. Unlike Texas Hold’em Poker players are dealt four cards for their eyes only instead of two. The betting rounds and layout of community cards is identical to Texas Hold’em after the big difference in the beginning. When it is time to showdown, players’ hands are made from exactly three of the five community cards shown on the board and exactly two of their own cards. A hand that totals five cards. Omaha Hold’em is most commonly played as a high low split and has many nicknames such as Omaha Eight or better, Omaha HiLo or Omaha8. The rules of this version are simple. The players use the same rules as above, however the make two separate hands. One hand is a five card high hand while the other is a five card low. The winners are the players (or player) with the highest and lowest hands. A low hand consists of playing an 8 7 6 5 4 or lower. The low hand is unavailable if the board cards don't contain three or more cards lower than eight. Paired cards lower than eight don't qualify. In Europe the poker game of Courcheval is the same game as Omaha with one slight difference that changes the game from the get go. Instead of players betting on the initial four personal cards and then being dealt three community cards for the second round, the first community card is dealt before the first betting round. This way all the players have a single community card to consider with their four private cards when making their first bet. After the first round two more community cards are dealt and they play proceeds exactly like Omaha. Omaha can also be played with a fixed limit, pot limit otherwise known as PLO or no limit. |
