Keno is a number choosing game, not unlike the lottery, or Bingo. It is a lottery of sorts, played at the majority of the land-based casinos. Of course, there are online keno options as well.

To play Keno, a gambler will choose between 1 and twenty numbers and marks them on their Keno ticket (online you will just choose your numbers on the appropriate page.) There are 80 numbers to choose from in Keno, ranging from 1 to 80. The casino will choose (at random) 20 numbers, of the same range. The player’s winnings are based on a few pieces: how many numbers chosen match the winning numbers, the original wager or bet, and how that relates to the base rate of the pay table.

Keno is unique in that it is one of the few casino games that is not required to keep a “house hold” percentage less than 25% of the bet. It is also one of few that can change the pay rate and schedule without eliciting approval from the authorities, or even required to notify the gaming committees of such changes. Because Keno required more man-power in land-based casinos than other games do, many casinos use these exceptions to their advantage by holding the percentages for the pay tables anywhere from 25% to 33%, or more, depending on the establishment. Because of this, the casinos have earned Keno somewhat of a negative reputation. In actuality, Keno games will vary in appeal from house to house, site to site, depending on the pay scale that each sets. No two Keno games will be the same- be that between houses, or even within the same establishment, as they can have more than one game structure in-house.

If standard and traditional lotteries are your game, Keno could be a great match in the casino world, depending on the site and game you choose!
