Five Card Draw online typically uses an ante; the first betting round begins with the player to the dealer's left, and the second round begins with the player who opened the first round. There are only two chances to place a bet. Each player is dealt five cards, one at a time. A round of betting occurs once everyone has their cards. If there are cards a player wishes to exchange then the draw phase begins. Each player specifies how many of his cards he wishes to replace and each player is dealt in turn from the deck the same number of cards he discarded so that each player again has five cards. A second round of betting happens after the players have received their new cards. The player that starts the betting is the player who opened the first round. Finally, a showdown is the last step if more than one player remains. At this point the player with the best hand wins the pot. A common house rule is that a player may not exchange more than three cards, unless he is keeping an ace or a wild card, if wild cards are in play. This rule is only needed for low-stakes social games where many players will stay for the draw. Another thing to know is that the bottom card of the deck is never dealt to a player in case someone may have seen it during the shuffle. If the deck is depleted during the draw before all players have received their cards, then the cards are randomly chosen from the pile of discarded cards of previous players. |
