The object of the game, simply, is to try to predict on what number a small ball will land after being spun for a significant period of time on the rim of the wheel. The wheel is spun in one direction, and the ball the other; when the kinetic energy wears enough for the ball to settle into one of the number spaces (38 spaces possible in American Roulette) the winning number and color are hit, and the winnings are allocated accordingly. It is possible to win not only on a specific and individual number, but on a range of numbers, whether the number will be even or odd, and the color of the space landed on: black or red. The main spaces are numbered 1 to 36, alternating colors (between black and red.) However, the numbers are not in order around the wheel, and it is not impossible for consecutive numbers to have the same color values. There are two additional possibilities in American roulette: two green spaces numbered “0” and “00” respectively. As stated, there are a number of ways bets can be placed in Roulette. Some are called “inside” bets, others “outside” bets. Inside bets refer to those based on the numbers themselves- choosing an individual number, or a range. The following inside bets are possible: Straight (a single number), Split (between two adjacent numbers, placed by putting the bet on the line adjoining them), Street (three numbers in a horizontal line), Corner or Square (4 numbers joined at 90 degree intersection), or a Sixline (a bet on two lines next to each other.) Outside bets include Even-Money Bets (a bet on designated 18 number grouping designated by a quality: red/black/even/odd/etc), Group bets (a range of 12 consecutive numbers) or column (bet is placed at the bottom of a column and wager is for any of those 12 numbers.) Some of the great appeal for Roulette comes from the energy at the table in live casinos. Because, quite simply, it is a guessing game in origin, with no control by the player- it can have great returns with little experience.
