An announcement made by the North American Poker Tour (NAPT) has sent ripples of excitement through the online gambling community with their revelation of a new event for this year’s tournament. The competition, sponsored by the online casino Poker Stars.net has announced that a special $25,000 buy-in High Roller Bounty Shootout will be introduced in this year’s events, to take place in the Venetian casino and resort in Las Vegas beginning February 23rd.

The Shootout is expected to flush out many of the biggest names in both online poker, as well as the live circuit. It will be a two-day event, with players having to win their tables to move on to the next round of play. Each contestant will carry with their elimination a $5,000 bounty, and the game will be a No Limit Hold’Em challenge. In addition to the money accrued through bounties, The internet casino Poker Stars.net has also added a $100,000 bonus to the first place winner.

Players who find themselves seated at the final table will have automatically won themselves at least $50,000. Once the final table is paid off appropriately, the remaining prize pool will go straight to the winner. The specialty event will most likely be broadcast, giving some much needed attention to the US tournament. The NAPT has already visited the Caribbean, and managed to attract a field of 1,529 players. The Caribbean Adventure’s main event champion took away with him $2.2 million in prizes.

"We want to try new things, different formats, and unique events that make our players happy,” said PokerStars Head of Global Events Jeffrey Haas. “This is sure to be a hit with both our players and the people who watch on television." After Vegas, the Tour will head to Uncasville, Connecticut for their event at the Mohegan Sun.
