It seems that the issue of online gambling is not only gathering more press in the United States, but according to a recent study, the amount of money being invested in internet casino interests in the political arena on both sides has jumped an amazing 50 percent for the third quarter of the year. Though the final statistics on the matter are coming in on a delay, the numbers are no less impressive, jumping up an additional half of 2008s total value, and demonstrating clearly just how important the matter has become, placing additional pressure on the American politicians.

According to a recent report by the US research group BolaVerde Media, the mandatory declarations made by companies lobbying US legislation for changes to the online gambling laws in America soared an additional 50 percent from the previous year, totaling $3.65 million in the third quarter of last year alone. In 2008, only $2.41 million was spent. Principal players in the game were also disclosed by the report, and included such well known names and brands in the online gambling community like Harrah's Entertainment Incorporated, UC Group Limited and the Interactive Gaming Council. Between the three, more than $2.04 million was spent, more than 55 percent of all the funds declared for online gambling interests. All three are lobbying for change in favor of the internet casino industry.

"We now know that regulated Internet gambling in the United States is inevitable and we have a good feel for who the big players will be in this emerging market," said Mark Balestra, Managing Director for BVMG. "But, it's telling to see which ones are getting involved in Washington. We expect the trend of increased lobbying spend to continue this year and for new contributors to enter the mix. An assessment of lottery spend also lends insight into what the regulatory model will look like and who stands to benefit.
