The latest is utterly anti-climactic however, with the state’s Supreme Court notifying the parties that more time will be needed before an actual verdict can be reached. It came as a disappointing revelation for the internet gambling community, who had anticipated the ruling for this week. The oral arguments all found their conclusion in front of six Supreme Court judges in October of 2009, following a long string of appeals up the judicial system by Governor Steve Beshear, who to this day, continues to insist on his right to seize the domain name and rights to international online casinos accessed by citizens in the state of Kentucky. Each failed attempt at a more favorable verdict resulted in nothing more than case-side indignation and a further waste of tax-payers’ money in Beshear’s attempts to own internet gambling rights. iMEGA, the Interactive Media Entertainment and Gaming Association, has been the primary defense against the state’s quest, with the group partnering efforts with that of the IGC (Interactive Gaming Council) and other internet freedom organizations. With the disappointing reality that a final decision was not awarded, iMEGA chairman Joe Brennan Jr released a statement: “Everyone was surprised in Kentucky. The rumour mill thought the decision was going to be rendered. That could have been why their [Kentucky] attorneys acted so quickly at the end of December [when the state sought to add new information to its brief], so if they got an adverse decision, they could keep it alive.” Because no dates for decisions have been scheduled for the Supreme Court in the month of February, the next possible date for resolution is March 18th. If they still can’t agree, the upcoming dates for 2010 are as follows- April 22nd, May 20th and June 17th.
