A new jointure has been established in
the newly liberalized Italian online gambling market this week, as two
groups team up to bring to local poker players a healthy and fluid poker
network. Microgaming SpA, the largest online poker network operator in
Italy, has teamed up with Caesar’s Interactive Entertainment for the
venture, the group formally known as Harrah’s Interactive Entertainment
and associated with the US Las Vegas Harrah’s land-based casino brand. The pair will firstly capitalize off the World Series of Poker brand name, under Caesar’s involvement, bringing for the first time the WSOP name to the Italian market. Though the poker network will be established in the internet gambling community, the plan includes live poker tournaments as well, with promotions linking the two. The games can be found though the new network name, People’s Poker, which is set to host a network of more than 120 different online poker sites. The fresh space will be co-branded with the WSOP name, and hopefully be strong enough to be the hub of online poker play in the Italian market. Land-based tournaments will be hosted very much in the same vein and style as existing WSOP events, with Microgame to receive exclusive rights to advertising at such tourneys. Microgame will also be the exclusive satellite provider, and the only pre-registration booking office for the WSOP Main Even held annually in Las Vegas, Nevada, US. “The Peoples Poker Network, powered by Microgame, confirms its position of leadership in the Italian Poker Market and we are truly excited to offer our customers something unique,” said Microgame CEO, Fabrizio DAloia. “The WSOP has over 40 years of history and heritage and an alliance with Microgame online marks an exciting new chapter for both of us.” |
