Not to say that women can't hold their own in traditional open poker tournaments, but it's certainly something to look forward to separate from the man's world. This week hodts one such event as the first ever poker academy jumps off in Harrah's New Orleans. The inaugural event's first free seminar is scheduled to be held this weekend, with poker pro and personality Barbara Enright at its head. The program is unique in that it's an all woman, meaning females ONLY academy, designed to takes lady poker players to the next level of competition. The academy was developed by fellow poker stars Lauren Failla and Lisa Adams and falls under the official title of the Women's Ultimate Poker Academy. Unlike many so-called schools of poked, the WUPA is designed around personal instruction. Participants will benefit from hand-by-hand instruction and individualised attention from the top female pros in the industry, with the instructor roster including other well respected names like Susie Isaacs, JJ Liu and Karina Jett, all of whom have impressive experience in the game and winning poker careers.
The ladies heading up the program
certainly have the resumes to claim ownership over the game: leader
Enright's career monies from poker top out more than $1.3 million, and
proudly brings a WSOP bracelet to bolster the WUPA creditation. Susie
Issacs, similarly, has bracelets for each wrist, and has walked away the
winner for the ladies' event for the World Spectacular Series twice. Both
ladies enjoy places in the Poker Hall of Fame. Both Karin Jett and JJ Liu
also are well known in the online poker industry, with more than $2
million combined earned through tournaments. Liu bring a WPT Ladies Night
title to the Academy. |
