The name WhereToBet may sound familiar, and after bouncing around in different ownership hands for the last few years, it seems that a facelift may be all the site needs to come back on the scene and reintroduce itself to the online casino community. Like Madonna, a new approach to the industry may all it takes for WhereToBet to stand successfully this time. There has been a buzz on the internet gambling news docket that before the end of the year, WhereToBet will be up and running again, ready to take on 2009 with a new approach- that of player advocacy. Whereas the site originally was designed as an advice column that allowed sponsored writers to advise gambling websites, the new WhereToBet will be uniquely player oriented. The site was originally established in 1997, and has had a run of owners, each more unsure than the last what the site needed to gain back its glory. The current owners are based out of Costa Rica, and go by the name of Blue Reef SA. Previous owner/operators included VIP Management Services, who are based out of Curacao in the Netherlands Antilles as well as Phoenix Media Group. According to a press release last year by ‘Simon Eaton’ at Blue Reef, the changes are player orientation-related: “ [they’ve] broken new territory by becoming the very first user driven gaming site on the internet.” Comparing the new WhereToBet to sites like MySpace (for social networking) and YouTube (for video sharing), Eaton clarified that WhereToBet intends to link players through common interests, like online poker, online bingo, and internet casino game play. “Wheretobet.com has brought that same successful model to the world of internet gaming,” Eaton said. |
