Poker professional David ‘Chino’ Rheem has pushed his luck and won, adding another jackpot to his career totals. The 28-year old came hot off his seventh place seat at the 2008 World Series of Poker with yet another grand placement- this time at the front of the pack. An impressive 497 poker players anted up for the steep $15,000 buy-in at the Doyle Brunson 5 Diamond Classic last week, each of them hoping for a chance to walk with the title and grand prize. ‘Chino’ Rheem was joined by Amnon Filippi, Steve Sung, Evan McNiff, Justin Young, and Hoyt Corkins at the final table, held at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The tournament lasted 6 days, with the final heads up competition coming down to Rheem and Justin Young. The two faced off with Rheem in the chip lead, which he continued to gain, until Young fell. The grand prize totaled $1,538,730 for the first place winner; runner up Young was consoled by a cool check for $936,760. This week’s win at the Diamond Classic brings Rheem’s career total over the $4 million mark, with $3.2 of it being earned in the last two weeks. His seventh place finish at the WSOP contributed the other 7 figure prize. Previously to his run of excellent poker playing in 2008, Rheem’s largest win to date was 2006 WSOP Re-Buy-In Event, during which he lost to Allen Cunningham for a second place finish and $327,000. |
