Being a strong supporter of the feminist movement, it's always a perk to see major poker tournaments being won by women and this year's Venetian Deep Stack marks one such moment. Joanne 'JJ' Liu took away the prestige and money related to the final table of the Deep Stack Extravaganza's Main Event. The cash prize of $167,283 was a pleasant bonus to go with her title, adding to the infamous poker player's repertoire. The tournament required a buy-in of $2,500 and with 233 poker players submitting to take part, the final prize bucket totaled a cool $539,628. Taking part in the 9th edition of the NLHE competition turned out to be in JJ's favor adding a significant amount to her career winnings, bringing the grand total to over $2 million over the last 12 years. the final table included other big named besides Joanne's: including Blake Cahail, Stewart Yancik, Richard Dinunzio, Ulises Roman and Nicholas Sliwinski. Randy Dorfman, Christopher MacNeil and Liu herself rounded out the final seats. Competition was tough throughout, leaving Liu to battle it with Ulises Roman for the first place slot, and finally took the solid lead and $167K prize, leaving Roman to consol himself with the runner's up $98,212. The victory marks JJ's third biggest ever, and held a special place as the eighth consecutive won for the poker fiend. Her current prize total amounts to well over the $2 million mark. |
