This year’s version of last year’s hit video game “World Series of Poker: Tournament of Champions” has failed in going above and beyond player expectations; reviews of the game consistently reveal that other versions of virtual poker tournaments are available that better represent the game, the strategy, and the online poker community.

Apparently, the artificial intelligence that the game has to offer does not satisfy a poker players love for the game, though this year’s design built upon last year’s success. WSOP: Tournament of Champions still holds its story-based design that follows a new poker pro as he studies under the tutelage of Chris Ferguson through the WSOP Circuit. Players of the game meet up with the best and most famous of WSOP champions, towards the goal of winning a seat at the invitation-only, winner-take-all Tournament of Champions, set in the Rio Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada. Virtual competition include Academy Award winning actress and WSOP champion Jennifer Tilly, 2006 WSOP Main Event taker Joseph Hachem and many other prominent names.

The game does provide an interesting array of tips, tools, and strategies for the game of poker, all with a Ferguson slant. Every win throughout the game unlocks new advice and tools, like checking the odds of the hands every step of the way. Dialogue is especially well done on the new version, whatever else the overall experience might be lacking.

As a side note, purchasers may find interesting that Amazon.com reports that most consumers who consider the WSOP Tournament of Champions game end up buying the ‘World Championship Poker!’ game for the Ninetendo Wii, sponsored by Howard Lederer.
