Contrary to trends being observed in the world of land based casinos, it seems that Americans are no discouraged by the economic woes plaguing the US enough to avoid patronizing online casinos. A new study by Media Matrix shows rather an increase in visits and participation at internet gambling sites.

Despite the continued existence of the UIGEA, endless warnings and prohibitive actions by conservative politicians, it seems that the numbers are increasing in favor of online gambling among American players. The most recent numbers supplied by Media Matrix.com Score are reporting back an 11% jump in online casino site visits during the month of November 2008. The study comes as a surprise to some who have bee tracking the commercial interest in gambling primarily by the losses by land based casinos throughout the nation.

Media Matrix says that the number of visits to online gambling websites by US citizens increased to 16.1 million over the 30-day period, which marked an growth of more than 1.5 million new visits compared to October’s numbers. Unrelated to casino news, the report also confirmed that Google by far logs the most visits, with 147 million visits; Yahoo! trails by 3 million. Third place was occupied by Microsoft who tallied 123.5 visits and AOL came in fourth with 110 million.
