The previously scandalized Ultimate Bet.com has yet another issue on their hands, however, it seems that past mistakes might actually have positive effect on the company that has worked so hard to repolish their reputation. The issue arose during a poker hand (specifically number 1162170993) between professional player Phil Hellmuth and an anonymous gambler using the name ‘Doubleballer.’ According primarily to the poker network 2+2, who were the first to report on the incident, Saturday morning the two players were enjoying a hand when Hellmuth lost a hand to ‘Doubleballer.’ Despite having the weaker of the two hands, Hellmuth was awarded the pot, an amount totaling $5,599. Immediately, a complaint was registered with the website, who had just completed a complete renovation with the establishment and development of the Cereus online poker network. Ultimate Bet representatives reacted just as quickly, assuring the players as well as the internet gambling community that not only would the incident be rectified promptly, but the apparent ‘glitch’ that caused it would be investigated and corrected. The COO for both Ultimate Bet and its sister site Absolute Poker (both owned and operated by Tokwiro Enterprises) Paul Leggett made a statement in regard to Saturday’s debacle: “Earlier today we learned about a poker hand where our system paid out the losing player instead of the correct winning hand. We are investigating this software malfunction as our absolute top priority. This is the first incident of this kind we have encountered.” Separate from the official actions being taken, Hellmuth has offered to reimburse ‘Doubleballer’ half the value of the pot, $2,300. Hellmuth is an official sponsor for the online poker website. |
