Bad boy Graham Calvert simply can’t catch a break, and this time is no different. Calvert, 29, is primarily known for his attempts to sue the online gambling group William Hill plc, for failing to prevent his problem gambling. The former greyhound trainer admitted to being a compulsive gambler last year as he filed against the online casino conglomerate, in search of £2 million to soothe his bills and addictions. His litigation for what he called a ‘lack of care’ to stop his telephone based bets was thrown out of court, and this week marked another attempt by him and his legal team.

Calvert’s lawyer filed a second petition this week, this time in the appeals court in contest of the rejection. Calvert, ironically, was not able to make the appointment in person as is incarcerated for firearms charges as well as serving a two-year sentence for possession and use of cocaine.
His lawyer, whose identity has not be been revealed for privacy reasons (honestly, who would want to be linked to Calvert?) was unable to file the appeal; he was refused authorization to appeal to the House of Lords. As if it weren’t bad enough, Calvert was also ordered responsible for William Hill’s legal fees and payments were mandated to begin at £50,000. The first payment will be due if and when Calvert’s appeal options to the Lords are exhausted.
