Bwin, one of the most powerful names in the online gambling industry has committed themselves to another 5 years of dedicated research on the many facets of problem gambling. Their contract with the Division on Addictions at the Cambridge Health Alliance is one three years old, and certainly worth continuing, deemed the gambling group.

The Division on Addictions is related to Harvard’s Medical School Teaching Affiliate the Health Alliance, and have been working closely with Bwin on building the largest scale longitudinal study on addictive gambling by studying 47,00 actual online casino patrons over the last 36 months. By focusing on membership behaviors, data, and statistics, the program has managed to acquire the most objective information base on gambling habits by eliminating perspective that so often clouds survey-studies. Bettors are not asked their views on their behaviors; rather the habits are logged primarily, giving the scientists a clear view of the situation.

This method has resulted in invaluable information about how to develop the most responsible gaming methods available. The principal objective is listed as building a scientific information base to encourage future development of responsible gambling environments, the prevention of future gambling issues and the search for solutions to current gambling problems. The next five years will continue their efforts of providing tools and information to Bwin consumers as well as keeping the company at the forefront of issue prevention initiatives.

"Bwin has taken the industry's leading position for corporate social responsibility," says Dr. Howard Shaffer, one of the Associate professors at Harvard Medical School. "Their commitment to the scientific process and unwillingness to take shortcuts to achieve short-term gains is noteworthy and indicative of a commitment to the health and welfare of its subscribers. Bwin has integrated responsible gaming efforts into its business practices and made empirically-supported self-help resources available to its subscribers.” Shaffer acts as the Director for the Division on Addictions.
