South Africa will be receiving new options for those interested in participating in online casinos as Ukash moves into the nation, intending to set the precedent for the region for additional financial options. The decision was significantly influenced by a 2007 survey taken by Finscope that shows 40% of South Africans do not have access to or utilize banking services.

Ukash has already established themselves as one of the primary payment services throughout the UK. They've partnered with Blue Label Telecoms in order to bring the voucher program to the new region. Ukash allows customers to purchase prepaid coupons with cash that van then be used to pay for things digitally, making websites available to those who don't carry traditional cards. It provides an opportunity for online casinos to think about advertising to voucher communities, and bring a way fir people to participate in trends like EBay, buying and downloading music, and online shopping.

For these reasons, Mark Chirnside, the CEO of Ukash, sees South Africa as the prime market for their continued ventures. With no precedents in the area, there are few drawbacks. Ukash's presense in South Africa may also encourage other vendors to bring their businesses south. Chirnside puts it in the following words for Ukash's objective: "...by exposing the larger part of the population to shopping online, we hope to bring both commercial and social benefits, all the while increasing the chances of socio-economic progress.”

The first step in the move, the Blue Label Telecommunication stations will begin offering Ukash vouchers to customers. The vouchers require no personal information and provide the holder with a code that can be used for online purchases. The system provides security from identity theft, fraud, and the accumulation of debt. It's a system available to people regardless of age, or background to participate in the online boom.

Beginning in November, consumers in South Africa will be able to start spending their vouchers at a number of the most popular online retailers. As time goes on, additional services will become available, like social networking sites, airlines, and hopefully not too far off in the future, online gambling sources.

Chirnside is confident about the success Ukash will find in South Africa: "Ukash has a long history of expansion into new territories and consistent success in securing a solid network of online merchants accepting Ukash. We aim to maintain and grow the existing business while bringing the Ukash solution to other markets worldwide. We will continue to partner with e-wallets as the top-up method of choice. We will also further establish ourselves as the preferred prepaid payment solution for the savvy online customer," he said.
