Stani Takes Estonia Stop

The most recent stop on the European Poker Tour came to a conclusion this week with a winner being determined for the Estonia location in their bright city of Tallinn. The championship went surprisingly to a new name known to the internet gambling world, as Kevin Stani walked away with the grand prize and title, and in doing do, defeated the well-liked French professional poker player, Arnaud Mattern, who had taken his seat at the final table with a substantial chip lead, only to leave it in third place.

Kevin Stani managed to walk with a cash prize of €400,000 in taking the win for the Estonia stop of the European Poker Tournament, hosted and presented by the online casino Poker Stars. The event was marked also because it was the first stop in the Poker Stars’s seventh season of the EPT, and drew in a record number of entrants for the location with 420 poker players showing up to test their skills. The resulting prize pool came to a substantial €1,596,000.

The final table included names that will be both be well known to internet gambling fans, as well as obscure, with Arnaud Mattern leading a pack that included eventual winner Kevin Stani as well as Konstanin Bilyauer, Dmitry Vitkind, Mikko Jaatinen, Steven van Zadelhoff, Nicolo Calia and Bassam Elnajjar. Mattern’s elimination into third place left Stani to battle the heads up against Moscoq student Konstanin Bilyauer, aged only 22 years, who made quite a splash in going so far in only his second live tournament entry ever.

Stani, a professional himself out of Norway, managed to hold onto his lead, surprising many in the industry in his win as he had only qualified for entry into the EPT event days early suring a $530 Poker Stars satellite qualifier on the internet casino site. The first prize of €400,000 was his largest single win to date in his career, which had previously included a 127th finish in this year’s WSOP Main Event in Las Vegas. Bilyauer was rewarded for his efforts by a check for €250,000, with Mattern taking €160,000 for his play.
