The second quarter reports are flooding
in this month, with many online gambling companies releasing to the press
the final numbers associated with their three-months fiscal periods,
ending with the 30th of June. The most recent to hit the internet casino
news sites comes courtesy of Playtech, which already holds an especially
strong position with the internet gambling community as one of the best
for software, games and programming, a reputation for excellence that is
backed by their positive trading update now published. Their investors will be very pleased indeed, as the trend for 2010 continues to be especially profitable, even through the summer months, a period traditionally associated with a slow-down in business. Playtech, however, is celebrating, with their gross income up a solid 34 percent from the same period last year, to €44.5 million. Already, they have growth 2 percent compared with the first quarter of this year, setting a nice stage for meeting and indeed, exceeding year end goals. Total revenues were also up nearly a third, to €36.8 million, a jump of 32 percent compared with 2009. Online casino action is growing steadily, up 34 percent to €24.9 million from last year, an increase of 3 percent compared with the first quarter. Surprisingly, poker interests were down, dropping to €7.3 million from last year, though management has accredited the loss to the popularity of sports betting for the World Cup, with gamblers just redirecting their bets. "The second quarter's performance continues our strong start for the year and provides a solid base for the full year,” said Mor Weizer, the chief executive director for Playtech. “Operationally we are well positioned with significant licensee wins such as RAY in Finland and the launch of our new Italian bingo and French poker networks bringing a broad range of well recognised local operators.” |
