Updated news from the developing online casino industry in Canada has become available, with the new online gambling website, run by the state supported British Columbia Lottery Corporation still down for repairs. PlayNow.com launched two weeks ago to a huge reception from Canada, with the number of players signing on so quickly that they crashed the servers. In an ironic twist of fate, though the government was reluctant to legalize online gambling in the first place, the popularity of the market has clearly spoken, with the site unable to hold the load.

Though that’s good news for internet gambling in North America, the down side is the fact that the site is still down and out of commission, with technicians reportedly still working on security issues that exposed player accounts when the servers went down. In spite of gamblers’ impatience for the online casino to get back up and running, the commissioner in charge of privacy policies in the Canadian province is requiring that all issues with PlayNow.com before they’re able to re-launch.

Elizabeth Denham, the Information and Privacy Commissioner, said that a full review of the operation will be conducted before the site can be opened up to the public once again. Her office will be working in partnership with the government’s Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch, evaluating all shades and sides of the platform for her constituents’ protection.

Some industry analysts are saying that the glitches in the system was a direct cause of the overwhelming of the servers. Additionally, it has been pointed out that the British Columbia Lottery Corporation did not consult with existing online gambling companies; the decision to not consult with established firms is now turning out to be unfortunate, as it could have prevented many of the issues now being experienced.
