Another online gambling court case is coming closer to a close this week as a bar owner in the state of Pennsylvania hopes to finish negotiations for lesser charges related to his involvement in illegal internet gambling, reportedly to increase his chances to keep his property. According to local news out of Pennsylvania, 71-year old Patrick Patte, junior is working in cooperation with state prosecutors, finding an acceptable charge to which he can plead guilty to for allow online sports betting in his bar.

Patte was the owner/operator of the Wilkes-Barre drinking establishment caught up in the center of an online gambling raid in February of 2010. He was caught providing access to illegal online gambling sites, and has been in the legal system ever since, trying to find a means by which he could reduce the charges. He finally plead guilty this week to charges associated with wire communications for wagering, a lesser degree than the conspiracy charges originally brought against him.

The court has already signed off on the deal, with US District Judge A Richard Caputo signing the terms of the agreement from the public eye, details which have not yet become available to the prying members of the online gambling community. Similar deals were apparently made with two other individuals associated with the raid, bar manager Mark G. Fino and Christopher Marion; their deals were signed and sealed in April of this year. The three cases’ terms will likely become available once sentencing has completed, a progression expected for next week.

In spite of the progressive gambling moves being made by Pennsylvania in the last 18 months, the police action targeting illegal gambling has actually consistently resulted in a number of cases finding themselves in the courtroom. The raid against Patte’s bar was actually one of the larger schemes to be taken down, with a series of code names and passwords granting only a small population of their customers access to the online casinos. That operation had paid out winnings and losses over a longer period of time than typical, with transactions being tracked as far back as January of 2009.
