A new online gambling venture has been
announced by Scientific Games Corp this week, bringing the name of the
American company back into the spotlight after having signed with Playtech
early this year in a joint internet casino project. The latest news from
Scientific Games Corp is their acquisition of another smaller, and yet
American based, online casino game and marketing software developer by the
name of GameLogic, Inc. Its being interpreted by many as a confident sign
of trust that legalization might actually come to fruition this year, with
the US companies seemingly gearing up for a launch. The details of the acquisition have not been released to the online gambling press. Scientific Games Corp is based out of New York, while GameLogic operates out of Boston. According to a report by the Boston Globe, GameLogic has been in operation since its launch in 2002, and since them has created a myriad of successful partnerships with other venture companies, such as Bain Capital Ventures of Boston, General Catalyst Partners of Cambridge and Maveron LLC of Seattle. Their efforts have resulted in more than $26 million being raised. GameLogic mostly contributes to the online gambling industry through their marketing products, supplying loyalty programs and advertisement platforms to a number of land casino operators. They are also the developers behind the suite of online games called Play Away. The whole of their business allows land-based casinos to take advantage of a loophole in the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 by letting players buy online voucher-chips in a casino venue, before playing the games remotely (over the internet). It should be a good acquisition for Scientific Games, which works similarly though primarily with lotteries, such as the Massachusetts State Lottery. |
