- 1 Of those who called in, 34 percent chose to continue counseling, though the age group of 18 to 25 years old saw a bigger jump, with 44 percent of gamblers choosing to pursue additional help. From the statistics this year, Gamcare analysts were also able to determine that problem gambling among the younger generation was actually higher than the rates of problem gambling associated with adults. Though many chose to frequent online casinos for the ease and convenience, a strong 40 percent of them reported that land-based betting shops were their preferred venue. GamCare CEO Andy McLellan commented on the statistics, saying: “This is a serious wake-up call that we need to take seriously the wider accessibility of gambling and the real importance of education and wider awareness of responsible gambling, particularly for women and young people,” said the chief executive officer for the organization, Andy McLellan. “We want anyone who needs our help to know that they can call us in complete confidence, on the phone or online, and that we are there to help, not to judge.” McLellan went on to promise that the group intends to invest more time and energy into prevention methods in the future, with plans to partner with a number of firms, including online gambling sites to achieve their goals. He pointed out that remote sited offshore internet gambling sites may have some of the best opportunities to help players, installing checks and controls systems that all gamblers can utilize. He encouraged players to keep a look out for Gamcare’s logo, which carries a certification from the charity. |
