Serious online gambling poker network concerns are back in the news once again this week with players being warned of security issues with at Cake Poker Network. The call for caution was originally published by internet gambling site Poker Table Ratings, alarming members that encryption problems had been detected on a number of the Cereus network’s online casinos. The situation had supposedly been resolved by the Cereus IT team, assuring customers that the issue had been fixed, also via the PTR forums. With such a hoopla being made about the problems at Cereus, it would be logical to assume that other internet gambling sites would take the opportunity to identify potential risks in their own networks, a step that apparently was not taken by Cake Poker Network, the most recent scapegoat for unflattering posts on the PTR forums. The warnings range from general concerns about a weak encryption system, all the way to publicizing the poor security practices enforced by the operational team. Poker Table Ratings experts often put even the most popular online gambling sites to the test, seeing if their gaming gurus can hack into the system. Their success means nothing more than the fact that their victim systems need to beef it up – but the publication of their findings can often be unflattering and all out embarrassing, if such a thing were to be completed with malicious intent. "The Cake poker network uses a weak xor based encryption mechanism for all network transmissions instead of the industry standard SSL [a situation similar to that reported on Cereus by PTR- ed.],” read the PTR warnings this week, exposing the risks. “In our lab we are able to intercept and decode the users login name (e-mail address), screen name, and password in plain text, as well as their seat number and hole cards. Weve also been able to remotely display all seat numbers and hole cards on a compromised network. Though Cake Network has not yet responded to the allegations, they have been told of the loopholes, advised to upgrade their software. |
