It seems that one of the most popular names in online gambling could be under investigation by the United States government, as rumors propagate through the Internet casino community this week. The issue seems to be a large one, potentially affecting thousands of US players who frequent the online casino. As more forums report on the developments, it seems more concrete that the Manhattan Grand Jury's latest probe has Full Tilt in it's sights. No statement on the developing case has yet been receives by the world's second largest online poker site, though a generous outline of the available details was provided by the Financial Times newspaper this past week. The UK news source reported that a Manhattan federal grand jury was convened to look into money laundering claims against the online gambling firm. Their probe, which is assumed to be in action right now will hopefully find the answer to that question, but for now Full Tilt is assumed to be under suspicion for money laundering activities in the US. Key players at th site that are known to be US residents, such as Howard Lederer and Chris Ferguson are among those closely following the developing story, and could personally be investigated for potential involvement in anything skeezy that might show up. They have not yet been served, but expectations are running rampant in the online gambling community. According to the Financial Times report, one element of the Grand Juery inquiry will be a closer look at recent civil suits filed against the Full Tilt brand, those the plaintiffs have not been identified. Some are guessing that last years string of legal arguments between the firm and former pro rep Clonie Gowen might play a part in the FBI's renewed interest. Still others are beginning to speculate on what sort of detriment these accusations could have on the reputation of online poker in general, during a critical time for the legalization movement. The Manhattan Justice Department has refused to comment on the investigation. |
