According to recent study making its slow progression through the online gambling news circuit, the line that divides social entertainment and digital amusement and straight up internet gambling is beginning to be blurred as more companies partner up to cross their product lines. Facebook, for example, is primarily an online social networking site, but a number of classic casino games have found their ways on to the menus, and with their popularity growing, the trend is picking up speed.

The latest study comes courtesy of Finland, as the website YLE.fi observed that nearly any kind of game can be converted on an online casino version, just placing stakes on winning, or guessing across the board. Players can place any range of bets on the outcomes of the games, with each kind attracting a different kind of player. Skill games often profit from a whole different group than those who prefer the sheer luck of slot games, and the trend extends to other online diversions, those games that are not strictly prohibited by anti-internet gambling prohibition laws.

Lead researcher Jani Kinnunen delivered his findings at a seminar held by the Finnish Ministry of Health and Social Services, a production possible through the partnership with the National Institute for Health and Welfare in Tampere, Finland. The information will be of great value to the Finnish market, as more firms look to expand their gaming platforms in the coming years: the Finnish lottery has already approved the addition of some chance games to their home page, while the region’s online slot association (RAY) will be adding more traditional online casino games to their menus, like roulette and poker.

The advantages of adding a betting element to community-based sites is that is comes inherent with anti-addiction measures, as people get to know one another. Acquaintances are far less likely to encourage their fellow players to play irresponsibly, a totally different vibe than strangers on traditional internet casinos. When players know one another, reaching out to intervene is so much easier. The only downside is sometimes, despite the bets being placed, sometimes players don’t recognize skill and social games as betting.
