Four months was the length of time for the biggest winners yet in the Israeli lottery to step forward to claim their prize, reported a number of internet gambling websites this week. The funds were finally claimed his week, according to multiple international online gambling news reports, as the couple who had purchased the winning ticket finally found the slip of paper needed to claim the substantial prize. The couple has chosen to remain anonymous, masking themselves as they completed interviews, but were nonetheless exuberant to have won the £13 million prize. They finally collected the winnings on Tuesday of last week, though the drawing had taken place in January. In a story reminiscent of a recent US couple, the Israeli family was going through an old pile of papers to find the ticket at random, checking it just in case, and discovering that they had become multi-millionaires. Local news had reviewed the story of the largest ever hit lottery win, that had not yet been claimed, motivating the wife of the couple to encourage her husband to search for old tickets. He did, and afterwards credited her for the discovery. "This win is thanks to my wife, who pushed me to go check the tickets, because otherwise I wouldn't have found it," the man said. He said that the trip to the store to find out how much money they had won was memorable to say the least, as the clerks all fell silent when they saw the amount won come up. "How much did we win, for God's sake?" he recalled thinking. "Everyone there was pretty shocked." According to the internet gambling presses, the couple has not yet decided what they want to do with their new found wealth, but charity will certainly be a strong consideration. The tax laws in Israel will take a good chunk of it, as it is subject to a 25 percent levy for gambling. |
